Bangladesh Air Force Purchasing Two C-130J Super Hercules From Royal Air Force of United Kingdom

Recently Bangladesh shopping some high-tech military equipment for its armed forces from across the globe.

Directorate General Defense Purchase (DGDP) overlooks the purchasing processes. Bangladesh Air Force has making a deal with United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force for two of its Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules tactical medium airlifter. Currently BAF operating four Lockheed Martin C-130B/E Hercules and wants some few more.

C-130J Super Hercules is the latest advanced version with an upgraded engine and other advanced systems and sensors. This aircraft has sought huge success in the military transport aircraft market while almost 300 unit has been built various customers.

China offered 16 Chengdu J-10B, 1 Xian Y-20 heavy lift military transport aircraft, 1 Shaanxi KJ-200 AEW&C aircraft, and 7 K-8W Karakorum intermediate jet trainer aircrafts to Bangladesh Air Force.

China trying to counter india’s $500 million loan to Bangladesh to buy Russian weapons. It is now prestige issue for Beijing to maintain high-ground regarding Dhaka. Delhi offered military training, arms and other supports during indian defense minister monohor porikar’s Dhaka visit, which Bangladesh Armed Forces rejected then.

Still this is a rumor, though, experts believe that what is rumored regarding China-Bangladesh military dealings is true. Because previously Bangladesh bought Chinese fighter trainers to train BAF’s combat pilots. Many Bangladeshi pilots got training in China for flying J-10 fighter jets. And this is expected for many days that BAF would buy Chengdu J-10B jets in some number.

As BAF currently operating Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules medium transport aircrafts and need a bigger one, they choose newly developed Chinese heavy lift Y-20 military transport aircraft which is analogous to American C-17 Globemaster III.

DEALIEST Su-30SME Fighter Jet is Coming for Bangladesh Air Force (BAF)

Bangladesh selected Su-30SME over Mig-35D & Su-35S flanker fighter plane. BAF will eploy these eight jet to the No. 8 Squadron and role will be Maritime Strike & Counter-Offensive missions.

BAF selected Sukhoi Su-30SME as maritime offensive fighter jet role. Bangladesh military currently going through “Forces Goal-2030” modernization process. As per the modernization program Bangladesh Air Force acquiring most advanced military hardware from various origins. Su-30SME is the latest and most advanced variant of the Su-30 flanker family. This model is one of the capable fighter aircraft platform worldwide. Russia offering this jet to those countries who are already Sukhoi jet operator.

This SME version is the export variant of the Russian Aerospace Force’s Su-30SM, which has been equipped with Bars-B multi-purpose fire control radar, 3D thrust vectoring AL-31FP after burner engines, IRST and Laser Designator Targeting pod and an EOTS coupled with laser navigation system and helmet mounted target acquisition system. Its fire control radar can scan & track 15 targets simultaneously and very much able to hit four of them at once with missiles and bombs.

The Su-30SME has an 8 tons of weapons payload. Weapons are ranges from advanced air-to-air missiles, anti-surface/anti-ship missiles, air-to-ground precision guided munitions etc. Its normal range is 3000 km while with an aerial refueling range extends to 5,600 km.

Special Security Force, Bangladesh is a law enforcement agency which is tasked with to protect prime minister, president and foreign dignitaries to visit the country. It was founded in 1986 as the President Guards Regiment or PGR. This force comprised of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy, Police, Border Guard Bangladesh and from other para military forces.

Special Security Force (SSF) has been trained in the European Security Academy (ESA) in Poland. Which training includes how to response promptly in any unexpected and non-conventional threats against high profile entities of the state. Agents of SSF are capable of use any types of weapons and small arms available and have been trained to repulse any terror attacks.

The mission of SSF is to provide physical security to the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh. They also provide protocol to any person designated as VIP by the Government of Bangladesh. SSF operates in coordination with civil administration, security and intelligence organizations to prevent as well as protect VIPs from any threats. SSF is only accountable to the Prime Minister according to the parliamentary system. This LEA also responsible for the security of VIPs’ offices and residences.

Firstly, it was named as Presidential Security Force (PSF) when formed on 15 June 1986. But later with the introduction of Parliamentary Government System in Bangladesh, the force was renamed as Special Security Force on 27 September 1991. It is headquartered in Dhaka.

Bangladesh operating F-7BGI interceptor fighter jets in numbers. Chinese Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group built these single engine fighter aircrafts for Bangladesh with most advanced avionics and other sub-systems. Upgraded F-7BGI can carry and fire BVR & WVR air-to-air missiles, GPS/Laser guided bombs, Anti-Ship Missiles (AShM) and two types of rocket pods to fire unguided rockets. New engine has a wet thrust of 82kN. These fighter jets can carry 3000 kgs of weapons payload.

BAF has 32 F-BGI fighter jets operational, mainly deployed as interceptor role. F-7BGIs are the “stop gap” combat jets while Bangladesh Air Force sourcing 4++ generation fighters from Russian origin. In few months past DGDP issued a tender to acquire 8 4++ generation fighter jets with Russian specific technical data and finally Su-30SME has been selected. It was included in the tender that BAF will also bought additional four jets if the procurement goes smooth.

China has made thousands of Soviet designed Mig-21s under license as “J-7” for its own Air Force, and then upgraded the design with latest avionics, armaments, engine etc. Its export version is “F-7”. These fighter planes are the most advanced upgrades of its types, even from Mig-21 made by Soviet Union. Bangladesh Air Force seeking truly capable multirole combat jets in numbers to augment Air Forces air power to defend country’s sovereignty.

Under the “Forces Goal-2030” government funding most advanced defense equipment and setting up several institutions for BAF. Bangladeshi F-7BGIs are the currently world’s most advanced and even Mig-21 can’t compete it. It has a maritime capabilities as it can carry & fire C-704/C-802 Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles (AShM). Myanmar also has these jets but not in the same configuration that BAF deployed. F-7BGIs are the lethal string to our national defense. Our pilots are dedicated to make our night chaos free and our days safe to work. In near future Bangladesh will buy fifth generation stealth jets if economy goes well. BAF also establishing an “aero engineering and maintenance complex” to manufacture and overhaul own jets.

Bangladesh Air Force issued tender for 4++ Gen. Long-Range Maritime Strike & Offensive Fighter Plane:

Bangladesh Armed Forces Services’ Directorate General of Defence Purchases (DGDP) has issued an international tender In February 28, 2017, for eight multi-role maritime combat aircraft, additionally options for four more, for the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF). From previous acquisition pattern BAF will purchase these fighter jets from Russia. News already circulating in web that Russian United Aircraft Corporation expecting to grab the contract. UAC will propose their Mig-35S, Su-35S and Su-30SM 4++ generation fighter jets for the bid.

These aircrafts will be deployed to protect its territorial water body in the Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh Navy (BN) has its very own air arm, though, BAF will be responsible for the aerial offensive and strike support to the Navy during any conflict.

Previously Government of Bangladesh pledged full support to raise a tri-dimensional naval forces including surface combatants, sub-surface forces (submarine force) and naval air arm. BN currently operating few fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts includes Dornier Do-228NG maritime patrol & ASW aircraft, Harbin Z-9C surveillance & utility helicopter and recently ordered for two AgustaWestland AW159 ASW helicopters. As Bangladesh Navy has no adequate facility installed to maintain such a full-fledged combat fighter jets its BAF’s task to provide aerial strike support to the navy.

According to the tender issued DGDP asked to submit proposal against the tender in April 13, 2017. Additional four fighter aircrafts will also be purchased in coming days, it’s also been stated in the tender document.
