Bangladesh ordered two Leonardo Finmeccanica AW159 Wildcat last year to boost its navy’s ASW, ASuW capabilities to protect the maritime boundary and its marine assets
Bangladesh Navy will get AW159 Wildcat Helicopters in last of 2017. Bangladesh modernizing its armed forces under the “Forces Goal – 2030” upgradation program.
This helicopter has Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) and Over-The-Horizon-Targeting (OTHT) capabilities. AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat has been in operational with British Royal Navy, Royal Army, South Korean Military, & Philippines Navy.
Bangladesh Navy is also operating two Dornier Do-228NG Maritime Patrol Aircraft from Germany. Two AW109 SAR helicopters built by the Italian Leonardo Company.
Bangladesh will also get some few utility and ASW helicopters soon.
Bangladesh Navy now a three-dimensional armed force of the country by operating two Chinese Type 035G Ming-class submarine, which was commissioned in active in last 12 March this year. Bangladesh Navy is constructing a new base at Rabanabad in Patuakhali named BNS Sher-E-Bangla, which will be the country’s largest naval base with submarine berthing and aviation facilities. Meanwhile, a separate submarine base is under construction at Pekua in Cox’s Bazar. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had observed the ceremony and inaugurate the commissioning of these 2 submarine of Bangladesh.
BNS Sheikh Hasina is a new naval base being developed for the Bangladesh Navy. This will be the first full-fledged submarine base of Bangladesh Navy. Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of a submarine base in Pekua in the coastal city of Cox’s Bazar.
China handed over the two Type 035G Ming-class submarines to the Bangladesh Navy on 14 November 2016.
Bangladesh Navy has Type 81 Anti-Submarine Warfare Rocket launchers it its inventory for shallow water ASW role. It is an upgraded version of the Russian RBU-1200 ASW rocket launchers which fires 240/250mm Type 62 rockets from ASW small & medium warships like patrol vessels, fast attack crafts, submarine-chasers and frigates.
Bangladesh Navy uses 250mm rockets and this system is a five-tube launchers and rockets have to be loaded manually. It has a range of 3,200 meters. Features are as below:

• Weight: 195 kg
• Warhead:100 kg
• Caliber: 300 mm
• Length: 1800 mm
• Sink rate: 11.8 m/s
• Maximum depth: 450 m
