Italian defense equipment manufacturer Leonardo Company offered it A129 International attack helicopter to Bangladesh Army. Attack helicopters are modern army’s aerial warfare backbone and Leonardo’s A129 combat helicopter is one of the most sophisticated chopper in its class.

It is a combat proven platform. A129 also dubbed as AW129, sometimes. Italian Army operating 59 of them and deployed worldwide operations. This attack helo can operate in hot desert conditions, cold weather, and tropical humid weather. If Bangladesh Army go for A129 then they can get logistics, training, maintenance and spare supports easily.

Bangladesh setting up an armored personnel carrier (APC) manufacturing plant inside the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) premises in Gazipur district near Dhaka. Not only army but also other armed forces, Bangladesh Police, Border Huard Bangladesh, and few other paramilitary needs such armored cars to operate swiftly.

Recently Armed Forces of Bangladesh taking initiatives to manufacture most of the country’s needed military equipment and gears in home. APC factory is one of those efforts. BMTF has sufficient resources and skilled manpower to execute such big military vehicle manufacturing process. Previously Bangladesh upgraded their Type-59 tanks with some foreign technical help. Bangladesh Army also producing various types of military trucks and cars.

In another effort, BD Army setting up an overhauling plant for russian built “BTR” series armored personnel carriers. Currently BA has 600+ BTR APCs. Bd Army operating a large number various APCs, most them are Russian made BTR-80 & BTR-82s. some are Egyptian, American, Chinese, Turkish and other Eastern European origins.

In the near future Bangladesh eyes for manufacturing own aircraft, APC, large warships, MANPADS missiles, multiple launch rocket systems, soldiers gears, fighter jet overhauling plant and some other. Building efficient military industries shall save large amount of resources and help in country’s economy a lot. That’s why military-civil leadership of Bangladesh taking effective steps and measures to flourish this sector. Chinese VT5 light main battle tank has been finalized by Bangladesh Army. 2 to 3 regiments will be bought in short-term acquisition process. This tank is designed and manufactured by the NORINCO, China.

As sources confirmed, Bangladesh Army will buy more light tanks from Europe too. VT5 light MBT is a very nimble, has maximum fire power and can operate in mountainous & marshy lands, jungle, riverine areas.

Weapons are a 105mm rifled-main gun, a 12.7mm & a 7.62 mm machine gun. There are a 40mm automatic grenade launcher, too, in the remotely-controlled weapons station.

With the help of United Nations and other aid authorities from around the world Bangladesh Government arranging the whole work. Along with the army other armed forces and paramilitary will also participate to successfully finish the job in time.

Bangladesh Army has reputation to complete such construction projects in due time with higher quality. Previously Bangladesh Army carried out such construction works and completed the “Ashroyon Prokolpo” for the homeless peoples funded by the government and various donor organizations in the past.

8 square kilometer area has been selected near Bangladesh-burma border in Cox’s Bazaar and Teknaf to build the refugee shelters. Each shelter will accommodate six families and such 14000 thousand shelters will allow 84000 families to live temporarily there. Various donors included UNHCR, EU, USAID, Canada, JAICA etc. are providing funds and other allied resources. Almost 700,000 Rohingya peoples took refuge in Bangladesh’s southern districts of Cox’s Bazaar, Teknaf and Bandarban.
